Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema became the most-decorated player in the club history as he won the Copa del Rey (CDR) title on Saturday.
The French striker has won 25 titles in 14 years with the Los Blancos, which makes him the player with most titles in the club’s history along with the legendary Marcelo — who also won 25 titles.
Benzema also became the most-decorated French player after winning CDR with a total of 33 career trophies. Winning 25 with Madrid, seven with the French club Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon) and one with the French National Team.
Benzema has played 643 matches for Madrid where he has scored 352 goals, which is the second most in club history, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored record 450 goals for the Los Blancos.
Karim has also provided 165 assists, which is the most in club’s history.
Earlier, Real Madrid defeated Osasuna in the Copa Del Rey final with the score line of 2-1. The Brazilian youngster Rodrygo Goes scored two goals for the Los Blancos as he secured the title for Madrid.
The Los Blancos won their 20th Copa title in the club history.
Many former Madrid players congratulated the club on their social media accounts as Madrid ended their long nine-year wait for the Copa trophy.
Former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos congratulated the Los Blancos on Twitter.
Ex-Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale also congratulated his former club on his Instagram.
It must be noted that Real Madrid will play their 11th UEFA Champions League semi-final in the last 13 years on Tuesday, May 9 where they will face Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.
The two clubs met last season during the UEFA Champions League semi-final where Real Madrid won the tie after a late comeback, something that they are known for. Rodrygo scored two goals within two minutes to take the game into extra-time, where Benzema scored the winner during the fifth minute.
